  • We took the interior of this 1950s-era home back to its roots with an open concept and a mix of retro and contemporary finishes.

The existing kitchen, with original appliances and charming finishes, had always been the hub of this family’s home. But the closed-off space was a drawback to entertaining. “Beautiful” and “functional” were also prerequisites for this client who is passionate about cooking and baking.

Removal of one wall and the door to a covered porch dramatically opened the floor plan and made way for added storage and counter space—a coffee bar in fact—plus an expansive island that is truly a centerpiece.

The enormous island is a baker’s dream—a custom butcher block sits atop beautiful blue cabinetry. Together, they contrast the crisp white perimeter comprised of retro white ceramic subway tiles and snowy shaker cabinets. Additional storage was maximized by taking the wall cabinets to the ceiling. All new fixtures were also installed, including recessed lighting which replaced the original track lighting.

Once separated from the dining room and living room, the kitchen now flows freely as a cohesive and gracious entertaining space.

A gorgeous custom round table (coming soon!) and beautifully reupholstered dining chairs complete the space for large gatherings.

On the opposite side of the dining room is a custom buffet server and bar that complements the kitchen and serves (literally!) as an extension of it.

We entertain a lot and the kitchen was always the center of the home, but now it’s a real pleasure to be there with company. We are so appreciative that [Todd] respected our budget parameters and worked his magic within them. His team is terrific too. We can’t wait for our next project with TOBE DesignGroup [and] know this will be a long relationship.
